General Maintenance Worker

Under supervision and direction, performs a wide variety of entry level duties in the building and grounds maintenance.  Will assist in the maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of process and non-process equipment, and facilities at Wastewater Treatment facilities and Collection System Pump Stations, Water Production facilities, Tank sites & remote Pump Stations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure that equipment continues to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical conditions of equipment, buildings, and structures does not deteriorate.
  • Assists in repairing and maintaining relevant mechanical and hydraulic equipment components of process and non-process in Water Production facilities and distribution system pump stations & tank sites such as centrifugal, submersible, diaphragm metering, & progressive cavity pumps, motors, gear reducers, blowers, valves & valve actuators, conveyor systems, air compressors, pipes, tubes, rods, seals, shafts, stuffing boxes, bearings, couplings, and other processing equipment.
  • Inspects motors, pumps, blowers, drives, and belts, checks and maintains fluid levels, cleans/replaces filter elements, and performs other maintenance actions following checklists.
  • Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, saws, hoists, drills, weed eater, push & riding mowers, blowers, hedge trimmer, painting equipment (brushes, rollers and sprayers) and pressure washer. 
  • Assembles, installs and/or repairs pipe systems and plumbing, machinery and equipment.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of equipment and machinery.
  • Maintains preventive and corrective maintenance records of equipment, buildings and structures, and special projects.
  • Knowledge of confined space entry procedures and basic first aid.
  • Uses safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the trade. 
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required; three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Georgia Driver's License.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required                 by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; extreme heat and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
