Georgia DOT CVL Project Planning and Design Work Continues

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s (Georgia DOT) I-75 Commercial Vehicle Lanes (CVL) project team is continuing to make progress on the production of environmental and planning studies and refining the project design. Project layouts were updated January 2021 and posted to the project website under the Resources section at https://majormobilityga.com/projects/i75cvl/. Reports detailing the analysis of future traffic volumes and the identification of ecological resources are also available in the list of Resources (see links for the Traffic Report and the Ecology Resource Survey Report). The I-75 CVL concept development phase has concluded with the Georgia DOT Management approval of the Concept Report in May 2021. A Systems Interchange Modification Report (SIMR) is in progress; this report will evaluate impacts to corridor interchanges that are closely spaced and operationally interrelated. The Air Quality Impact Assessment (AQIA) was approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in April 2021. Environmental resource identification and special studies for historical, archaeological, and ecological resources, including underground storage tanks and hazardous waste sites, are complete. Addenda to the special studies reports are anticipated to be completed in Q3 2021, along with Assessment of Effects (AOE) Reports for noise, ecology, and cultural resources (historic and archaeological). The environmental document being prepared for the project is an Environmental Assessment (EA). The draft EA will be available for public review at the Public Hearing Open House (PHOH), which is currently scheduled for Q1 2022. The project team continues to address public inquiries received through the project email address (75CVL@dot.ga.gov) and the project hotline (678-528-7275). Questions regarding the project may still be submitted to the project email address or the project hotline.
