In addition to fall classes, five Henry County students have started part-time jobs as professional bank tellers, as participants in the Delta Community Credit Union High School Apprentice Program.
 
The students are Tranecia Booker and Trenaria Stephens, from Stockbridge High School; Kennedi Gary from McDonough High; Nichelle Glover, of Luella High; and Cody Sweet from Union Grove High School. All are 17-year-old seniors in the graduating class of 2020.
 
As Apprentices, the students received the same professional job training as Delta Community’s full-time tellers and will serve the credit union’s members at branches in McDonough and Stockbridge. They receive competitive pay, membership in Delta Community, financial literacy education and career opportunities.
 
In return, Delta Community’s frontline staff receives valuable support from these bright, motivated students. In the long run, investing in education and professional development benefits the credit union by helping build a reliable, trained workforce. In fact, many of the 150+ students who have taken part in the program since its launch in 2006 return to work for Delta Community after graduation. Some have moved beyond their original teller jobs to work in departments such as Human Resources, Retirement and Investments, Accounting and Legal.
 
The five Henry County students are among two dozen high schoolers who will spend the 2019-2020 academic year working in Delta Community branches throughout metro Atlanta.
