Five High Schools Receive Local STEM Grant.
Over the course of three days, ALPLA North America presented five educational grants to deserving high schools in Henry County. After reviewing applications for the 2023-2024 school year, grant recipients included Ola High School, Stockbridge High School, McDonough High School, Academy for Advanced Studies, and Locust Grove High School.
With its regional headquarters and one of 16 plants being in McDonough GA, ALPLA has supported the Henry County school district since 2020. ALPLA’s investment, meant to impact the people and communities where operations are
based, is growing. Thus far, the company has provided over 20 grants to schools across multiple states. Such grants with funding of up to $10,000.00 not only improve local opportunities for learning but challenge students to solve problems with innovative design-based thinking.
Sustainability-based projects, VEX robotics competitions, and STEM program start-ups have been by-products of ALPLA’s investment. This year, however, recipients of the grant hope to distribute the funding in ways where teachers are given the freedom to break educational boundaries and illuminate the benefits of a career in STEM.
“As part of a global manufacturing and recycling company for innovative packaging solutions, we believe in supporting our local STEM-based programs. Henry County students are the future of our workforce and to play a part in their development while highlighting the possibilities that exist within the community is an opportunity we wouldn’t want to miss,” said Chivvaun Smith, Communications & Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, ALPLA, North America.
In hopes of enriching the grant experience, ALPLA looks to partner with recipients on projects like recycling education, career development, and mentorship.
