An Insightful Look Into Healthcare

Healthcare day was an interesting and fun filled day. The morning started out at Children’s
Healthcare of Atlanta Sports Medicine with a delicious breakfast with shrimp and grits, eggs, sausage
and cinnamon cake. The presentation focused on the daily operations directly influencing pediatric
patient care from Physical Therapy to Urgent Care. It was great seeing how the different Healthcare
organizations in Henry County come together to meet the needs of patients in demanding
environments. We headed over to Piedmont Henry Hospital which included several guest speakers from
the COO to the Chief Medical Officer whom I have the pleasure of working with every day. The
presentations discussed future growth plans to expand the Emergency Room and a build another tower
in the next 3-5 years as the population in Henry County continues to grow. There were several other
presentations from Sacred Journey Hospice, Hands of Hope and Henry County Health Department.
Piedmont Henry provided tours as we divided into groups to visit the Cardiology Department, Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit and Radiology. It was an awesome experience to share with the Leadership Henry
Class of 2020. As we came to the end of our day, the best part was last. During the Piedmont Henry
Surgery Overview, the Leadership class divided into teams to play the Operation board game and had to
dress each other in protective wear. It was fun, and there was a lot of positive energy in the room
among leaders. There was a sense of patience and calmness in the room as we worked together as a
team to remove the bones without hitting the buzzer. It was awesome seeing the teams use their
remarkable talents and skills to fuel our mutual effort to win the game.

This experience was shared by Tanya Gilmore, Clinical Nurse Manager of Family Care Center at
Piedmont Henry Hospital and current student of Leadership Henry Class of 2020. Gilmore is excited
about the unlimited capacity to grow with the Class of 2020 Leadership Henry.
