Update on City of McDonough Services
MCDONOUGH, GEORGIA – July 20, 2020 – Due to the recent significant rise in cases of COVID-19 reported by the Georgia Department of Public Health, the City of McDonough has taken several steps to protect the health and safety of employees and the public. In addition to these steps, the City of McDonough encourages everyone to adhere to virus mitigation guidelines from the CDC to reduce risk of exposure to COVID-19. Beginning July 21, 2020, all City of McDonough government buildings will close to the public and remain closed until August 1, 2020, at which time the situation will be reassessed. Closures include McDonough City Hall, Municipal Court, Police Department, Fire Stations, Public Works, Main Street Welcome Center, and the C.O. Polk Museum.
All city parks and restrooms have been closed until further notice including Alexander Park East, Alexander Park West, Avalon Park, HOPE Park, Richard Craig Park, and Rufus Stewart Park. Please note that this does not apply to walking trails, as long as individuals adhere to social distancing protocol.
City of McDonough water customers are encouraged to make payments online, over the phone, by utilizing our dropbox, or by visiting our drive-through.
The Community Development Department, consisting of Building & Inspections, Code Compliance, and Planning & Zoning, will be allowing permits (i.e. Trade, Exterior Façade, Sign) to be purchased over the phone with a credit card and obtained via email. Scheduling of Inspection Requests (Inspection Line 678-782-6217) for Building & Inspections will only be for items that are immediately ready for inspection, with the condition that inspectors must be allowed to conduct inspections of the subject property unattended to comply with social distancing precautions. Patrol zone coverage for Code Compliance officers will be limited to the Town Square District and Exit 218, I-75 Corridor (South Point/Avalon).
In accordance with CDC recommendations, all City and Main Street events remain canceled until further notice. The Council Meeting scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2020, will still be held and open to the public.
