    Summary of Position
    Henry for Music, Inc. seeks trained musicians and music educators to join our faculty as group lesson teaching artists.  
    Group Lesson Teaching Artists are responsible for teaching group lessons for their instrument at Henry County Schools, After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP) sites, which are often run in partnership with elementary schools. Group lessons prepare students for their  ensemble rehearsals, guide students towards public performances and entry into their school’s Orchestra or Band.
    The successful candidate will possess an unyielding commitment to empowering youth to realize their possibilities through music. This position reports to the Manager of Youth Orchestra United (YOU).

    Founded in 2015, Henry for Music provides intensive, tuition-free music education and instrument to play for youth right in their neighborhood. Henry for Music’s mission is to empower youth to realize their possibilities providing access into music.
    The 2022-2023 school year will hopefully be a return to normalcy with all programming held in person, reopening to serve 100 or more young musicians.

    Responsibilities:

    •  Learn, understand and represent the HFM philosophies for uplifting youths, families and communities through the pursuit of musical excellence
    • Teach group lessons to HFM after-school music students
    • Choose, prepare, and/or arrange appropriate repertoire for group lessons
    • Liaise with parents/families of HFM after-school orchestra students
    • Coordinate and cooperate with the HFM manager of primary orchestras in keeping track of HFM students/attendance and musical progress and loan of instruments.
    • Execute additional administrative tasks as necessary
    Ideal candidate will possess:
    • A Bachelor and/or Master of Music (preferred)
    • Passion for music as a vehicle for positive social change
    • Experience working (music-related or other) with disadvantaged, urban/rural youth
    • Exemplary music performance ability/experience    
    • Exemplary teaching ability (group lesson experience a plus)
    • Ability to inspire, work with and mentor youths ages 6 and up
    • Excellent inter-personal skills and be comfortable working in a team
    • Ability to adapt, be flexible and have a sense of humor
    Notes: The Group Lesson Teaching Artist is a part-time, hourly ($35/hour) position starting in September of 2022 (prefer-adjustable, 2 days per week/4 hours per day). Background check required. HFM program sites are located throughout Henry County, GA. Group lessons take place from approximately 3pm to 5pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursdays. Interviews and teaching auditions will take place, as scheduled.
