42,000, The number of students that attend the Henry County School system each day. 50, The number of schools in Henry County. 5000, The number of employees it takes to educate, feed and support the students of Henry county. Wow, those numbers are staggering! Thank you to Mary Elizabeth Davis, the Henry County School Superintendent, for her enlightening commentary on our school system. Student performance is always a concern and Mrs. Davis shared that, although our students are not quite where we want them to be; we are seeing some positive increases with the student’s performance and test scores. A budget of any size can be a challenge. Even with the school system seeing increased funds added to the budget; budget challenges have arisen because of extra expenditures. These expenses mostly include employee benefits and employee insurance cost. Our children’s safety should always come first and I was happy to hear that a Response Readiness Team is always on alert and prepared for any emergency at each school location. The School Board is also looking to bring new security technology that would allow an entire school to be placed on “Lock-Down” from any location in the school, by any employee, at the single touch of a button. Mary Elizabeth Davis’s passion and dedication is contagious! I sleep better knowing our youth and future leaders are in her care. Thank you to Affordable Events for catering the wonderful lunch! We appreciate our BBL sponsors. A huge thank you to Central Georgia EMC for sponsoring this event.
