    More than Fun and Games

I honestly was not sure what to expect when we were told in August about the overnight retreat. I have spent much of my professional career planning professional learning sessions for teachers and leaders, and I was very curious to learn from those outside the field of education. I have only lived in Henry County for 7 years, and I was not as familiar with the history of Henry County as those sitting at my table during the Kick-off Luncheon. However, the retreat proved to be a very enriching learning experience for all!
To say I was completely impressed is an understatement.  The Leadership Henry Board considered every detail–food, lodging, group placement, games, collaborative opportunities, open discussion, and reflection activities–to meet the varying needs of the class members.  The retreat brought together over 30 strangers who quickly united to engage in a memorable experience.  I never found myself distracted by texts, emails, or other thoughts and I was completely enthralled in each portion of the retreat.   Learning about each person’s strengths was incredibly interesting and helpful, especially when we were placed on various teams to accomplish goals.
On the bus back to Henry County, I found myself sincerely grateful for the opportunity to meet new people and appreciative for what the Leadership Henry Board planned for the group.  I am very much looking forward to our year together.

This update was provided by Dr.  Jolie Hardin, Executive Director of Leadership Development and Employment Services for Henry County Schools and a member of the Leadership Henry Class of 2020.  Hardin feels confident that this opportunity will contribute toward her growth as a leader and citizen of Henry County.
